Gamshütte 1921m - Finkenberg

Description

The hut is the most northerly base of the main ridge of the Tux Alps, which boasts famous peaks such as Schrammacher, Fußstein, Olperer and Hoher Riffler. The mountain hut is situated in an open location south-west of Finkenberg on the slopes of the Gamsberg. There are uninterrupted views of the Floitenkees, Dristner and Großer Löffler, the Ahornspitze, Rastkogel and Penken as well as the valley to Ginzling and the end of the Zillertal vlley.

History of the hut

The hut was built privately in 1928. In 1932, the former Kurmark division of the German and Austrian Alpine Club acquired the Gamshütte. In 1949, after the Second World War, the Berlin section took over the hut.

In 1993, the hut changed hands again and became the property of the Otterfing division.

In recent years, much has been renovated and modernised in and around the hut. To solve the problem of energy supply, a photovoltaic system was installed in 1997 to generate solar power and a thermal solar system to provide hot water.

Most recently, a drying room was built in the hut and the terrace was paved.
